| GUIDELINES FOR UNIT/DEPARTMENT HOME PAGES The design of a website representing a unit of the University should follow University web standards. These standards have been developed to provide a consistent University "look and feel", while also providing for individualization by departments. There should be one home page recognized as the "official" world wide website for a unit of the University, including any academic or administrative department, University-recognized organization, or academic purpose. This will be the home page to which the Universitys main website will link. This home page should be authorized by a department head or equivalent administrative official. This home page may point to other web pages inside or outside of the department or organization in accordance with UConn Web policies and standards. This home page must contain a link, as required by the Website Development and Design Standards, to the Universitys home page [http://www.uconn.edu/]. Department/organization policies and procedures may be developed and should be displayed as part of their website. However, department policies and procedures may not be in conflict with University and other policies. Departments and other University organizations may set up their own server and maintain their own information in compliance with UConn Web policies and procedures. They may also point to information located on servers outside of UConn. The same standards noted for the UConn Web system are applicable to other UConn servers and to servers outside of UConn. If managing their own server hardware and software, webmasters, webmanagers and site administrators should commit themselves to maintaining these resources as necessary to keep their website reliably on-line and available. This also includes managing disk space, backing up, upgrading WWW server software, and other technical requirements. Questions may be addressed to the UITS Help Center. |
